Recap of the Doosan Exhibition Series

This weekend, Baseball NSW hosted the Doosan Bears and ABL All Stars in an Exhibition Series.

We saw devoted fans come out to the park to support their favourite team, or their favourite player! It was exciting to see Blacktown International Sportspark so alive with plenty of action happening both on and off the field.

We appreciate the dedicated ABL players who devoted their time to participating in the series. Without you, we could not have had the amazing weekend that we did!

We were grateful to have the opportunity to showcase competition against one of the pinnacle KBO Professional Baseball teams, the 두산 베어스 (Doosan Bears). Baseball NSW CEO, Mark Marino has worked hard to engage with the Doosan Bears and Asia, through events such as these, saying “We are really excited to bring quality levels of baseball back to the park. It’s a great opportunity for our local talent to be on display against some world class competition and it was fantastic to see the uniqueness of Korean fan engagement come through at the game.”  Thank you for being here with us in Sydney and wanting to have a scrimmage game against the Australian Players! We hope that you enjoyed the series as much as we did.

This is the fourth year that we have hosted the Doosan Bears Spring training in Sydney, and the relationship with the Korean Baseball Organisation has been built over six years. Baseball NSW staff and Board look to maintain this relationship into the future as we continue to the grow the game in our state.

A special mention to Funkie Phil, Josh Guyer and Mick Goddard who went above and beyond to ensure that we created and captured the awesome atmosphere of the ballpark, you’re unreal and as always make our jobs so much easier. Phil is the acclaimed ‘pied piper’ of baseball fans and gifted them with tonnes of merch and many memories of the game. Images that Mick has taken of the event will be available to fans in the coming days via Facebook albums.

There are many people who deserve a huge thanks for their efforts behind the scenes this weekend! To our volunteers and staff who dedicated their time on a weekend, to Kerry Jackson and the canteen, and to RetroBirdie and Mr Kernal for food. Thank you for your amazing service at this event. Thank you also, to the BVM staff who worked overtime to ensure our grounds were top quality for the game!

Baseball NSW hope to be able to host more events like this in the future, so if you enjoyed this weekend, please stay tuned @BaseballNSW socials and here on the website for regular updates.
