It’s a great time to be involved in Baseball5!
On Monday, 4th July, the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) made an important announcement regarding the Baseball5 World Cup that is set to take place this year.
The Inaugural Baseball5 global event will be played from 7-13 November at El Zocalo in Mexico City. The announcement was made during the WBSC Congress in Taipei, Taiwan.
Baseball NSW has one of the largest Baseball5 programs in the country. Our involvement with Disability Sports Australia, Wheelchair Sports NSW and Sporting Schools NSW is driven by a passion to make baseball a sport for all. BNSW is involved in events run by multiple councils to promote the game all around the state.
Baseball5 also runs development programs through the Latin American community. The game is a fast-paced, all-inclusive, urban version of the classic games of baseball and softball. It is a dynamic discipline that follows the same founding principles as its parent disciplines.
On Monday, Australia was also announced as the sixth qualifier out of 12 teams following the confirmation of WBSC Oceania that they will represent the region in the inaugural WBSC World Cup.
The WBSC Baseball5 World Cup will run on even years with the WBSC Youth Baseball5 World Cup (14-18 age bracket) on odd years. The events will happen on a two-year cycle.
The 2025 edition of the Baseball5 World Cup will serve as a qualifier to the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, where the discipline will make its debut as an official medal sport.
