COACHING
Coach Accreditation plays an important role in the development of not only the coach undertaking the commitment, but just as importantly the players under their guidance. Baseball Australia’s view is that effective coaching requires the combination of contemporary knowledge, and the application of sound coaching skills. These requirements evolve over time, and constant training is required to ensure that coaches are up to date with their knowledge base, and their practical application.
Recent Changes
In July 2020, Baseball Australia revised the coach accreditation program, and in partnership with USA Baseball has integrated their certification program into the Australian coach accreditation package.
There are now 3 levels of accreditation all of which have a practical component to be completed.
Level A accreditation
Entry level baseball, all non-player pitch baseball (T-ball, machine, or coach pitch baseball), including assistant coaches - Replacing the former Level 1 and parts of Level 2 accreditations.
Level B accreditation
All player pitch baseball from Little League minors to senior (adult) baseball, including assistant coaches - Replacing parts of the former Level 2 and part of Level 3 accreditations.
Level C accreditation
Head coach junior charter baseball, club head coaches, NSW and Australian coaches - Replacing parts of the former Level 3 and Level 4 accreditation.
Certification C coursework from Jan 2021 and practical assessment from 2022
Legal Responsibility
A coach has a duty of care to all participants under his/her care. This is a legal responsibility which cannot be overlooked, and applies to coordinators, administrators, and teachers, as well as coaches. By becoming an accredited coach, you acknowledge awareness of your responsibility in fulfilling your legal responsibilities, as well as gain valuable, specific education on how to do manage and administer your duty of care.
