Baseball NSW congratulates the Blacktown Workers for winning the 2025/26 State League 2nd Grade Grand Final against Baulkham Hills last 28 March!
Baulkham Hills grabbed the lead early, going up 2-0 early in the second inning thanks to Chris Ings scoring off a single from Ryan Mercer that sent the ball to right field and Levick scoring off an error committed by Workers left fielder Darcy Williams.
However, the Workers caught their breath and launched a comeback deep in the same inning, which began with a run from Mason Malkoun off a single from Stancic on a hard ground ball that also allows Williams to advance to second.
Then, Williams scores the next run after Ben Martin singled off a line drive to center fielder, and Lucas Stancic scored another run on the throw, taking back the lead.
Afterward, Blacktown scored another two runs to go up 5-3. Spencer Williams scored on a massive single from Daniel Lakeman that induced an error from left fielder Stephen Courtney to third baseman Chris Ings. While Lakeman was tagged out as he advanced to third, Williams reached home and Martin took off and scored another run.
More runs from the Workers came at the bottom of the third, with another single from Stancic allowing Max Underhill to score the first run then Malkoun the next.
The Workers scored all of their runs in the third. Stancic and Spencer Williams steal both third and second, and a catcher’s error allows Stancic to score while advancing Williams to third, who then scored off a wild pitch. Scoreboard after three: 9-2.
Later in the fourth, Baulkham Hills tried to mount a comeback thanks to runs from Sam Levick and Courtney that cut the deficit to 9-4. However, the Workers’ persistent defense stifled any attempt from Baulkham Hills to get their bats going.
They only managed to score a single run since then, which came at the top of the eighth. A double from Courtney sends a fly ball to left field, which allowed Yuto Nakamura to score their fifth run.
In the ninth inning, Harrison Riley struck out Daniel Price as he swung looking, ending the game and capturing the title for the Workers.
This victory capped off a successful season for Blacktown, whose first grade squad also won the title in their own division. These two wins further cemented a baseball dynasty in New South Wales.
Once again, congratulations to the Workers for their victory! We also thank all the teams, coaching staffs, and the volunteers who made this season of the State League a success.
