Baseball NSW congratulates the winners of the 2025 Sydney Cup Finals, which were played over the weekend at the Arncliffe Scots Baseball Club Grounds!
After a grueling and competitive tournament, these teams were crowned division champions:
- Sydney Cup Worboys U12: Macarthur
- Association Cup U12: Manly
- Sydney Cup Balfour U14: Hills
- Association Cup U14: Hills Red
- Sydney Cup Shipley U16: Hills Blue
- Gaynor Cup U12: Cronulla
In the U12’s Sydney Cup Macarthur opened the scoring in the bottom of the first. Ryde Black took a 5-1 lead in the top of the third inning, thanks to their persistent offense and some wild pitching from Macarthur.
Still, Macarthur clawed back into the game after a single from Jett S allowed Benjamin P to score and cut their deficit to 5-3. After another score from Jett S and a stolen home plate from Beau B that tied the game deep in the sixth, Macarthur won after Oliver C scored off a wild pitch. Both Jett and Oliver led the team on the plate, with two at bats and one run, and one RBI each.
Great pitching kept the Sydney Cup U14 Grand Final between Cronulla Black and Hills scoreless until the top of the third. Z Fordyce opened up the scoring with a double on a hard ground ball to right field, which allowed B short to score for Cronulla.
Then Hills took initiative by scoring two runs in a row from a single from Justin Jang first for L Lawes to score and a double from A Jacovides for Emma Gainsford to score.
Hills effectively took control of the game deep in the fourth, scoring three additional runs to go up 5-1. Cronulla clawed back to within two runs in the seventh, but a fly out ended the game and sealed the win for Hills. The Hills pitching staff kept Cronulla at bay, led by Sayre Howick, who pitched 4.2 innings and allowed three hits and struck out eight.
Tough defense also defined the Grand Final between Manly and Hills Blue for the Sydney Cup U16 trophy. D Price scored the only run for Hills deep in the fourth, thanks to a wild pitch.
Neither team managed to take control of the game, and Hills won 1-0. J Creamer pitched 4.0 innings and allowed four hits but zero runs and earned runs, striking out three. C Stark followed with 3.0 innings and allowed zero hits, zero runs, and zero earned runs while striking out four.
The Association Cup U12 Grand Final between Ryde and Manly lit up the scoreboard with Manly ultimately coming out on top 31-17. Caden T led the Manly lineup with four at bats, where he scored three runs, dinged four hits and four RBI. Behind him was Xander S with another four at bats and three runs, three hits, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Hills Red took control of the U14 Association Cup Grand Final early, scoring three runs in the third. J Birkett led the Hills Red pitching staff in keeping Hills Blue at bay, throwing 4.2 innings where he allowed two hits and three runs, but struck out ten.
Another high-scoring game took place between Macarthur and Cronulla in our second ever Gaynor Cup U12 Grand Final. While Macarthur was in the lead for most of the game, Cronulla hung in there until deep in the fifth, when they banged out six runs that turned an 8-5 Macarthur lead to an 8-11 margin in favor of Cronulla. It was a balanced effort from the Cronulla lineup, with Callie S leading the team with three runs, one hit, and one RBI.
The Gaynor Cup Grand Final for the U15 division will be played at Col Sutton Reserve on 1 March 2026. We thank the Winston Hills Warriors for hosting this event. Check out the draw below!
Moreover, we would like to thank the competition namesakes–Peter Worboys, as well as Katie and John Gaynor–for attending the games and presenting the trophies to each of the champions.
