NSW Unis Join University of Sydney’s Hume Intervarsity Cup

On Easter weekend, Wagga Wagga Baseball Association hosted university teams from New South Wales and Victoria in the inaugral Hume Intervarsity Cup.

Boasting current university students from Melbourne Uni, RMIT, Monash Uni and Sydney Uni, the tournament builds on University rivalries that have been present since the 1920s, as well as giving young players a pathway to further representative baseball after finishing highschool.
The tournament was a round robin style event, with Sydney Uni taking the top seed with 3 wins, playing in the grand final against Monash, who had 2 wins and a loss. Sydney Uni were the dominant team all weekend on both sides of the diamond, walking away as tournament champions after winning the gold medal match 11-1.
The tournament couldn’t have gone ahead without the local Wagga Baseball crew who volunteered their time over the two day tournament, with the varsity teams hosted at a celebratory dinner on the Saturday night to build new traditions.
The tournament is looking to expand the university baseball calendar and welcome more student teams for Easter 2027. Interested university baseball clubs can email Shane Cantelmi from UniSport on [email protected]
