Newcastle’s Lachlan Wells Signs with KBO Champs LG Twins

Baseball NSW congratulates left-handed pitcher Lachlan Wells for signing with the LG Twins, the reigning champions of the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO), under the league’s new Asian League import rule.

With his signing, the Newcastle native became the first Australian player to sign with a KBO team under the new designation, which allows teams to add an import from Asian federations outside Korea.

This signing also follows the 27-year-old’s stellar performance at the ABL and another memorable stint earlier in the year with the Kiwoom Heroes.

Starting ten games with the Adelaide Giants in 2024-25, Wells posted a 3.17 ERA and led the league in strikeouts with 66 hitters over 54.0 innings, resulting in his being named the Giants’ Pitcher of the Year.

Moreover, Wells also won the ABL’s Helms Award for Most Valuable Player in 2023-24, where he posted a 0.94 ERA–one of the best single-season records in league history.

In Korea, Wells returned as a Temporary Foreign Replacement Player with the Kiwoom Heroes in 2025. With the Heroes, he posted a 3.15 ERA in 20.0 innings, which put him on the radar of several KBO teams.

Now with the LG Twins, Wells should provide valuable pitching depth allowed under the new import structure.

Previously, Wells had represented Australia across multiple levels, and he had also signed with the Minnesota Twins as a teenager. He played for Team Australia at the U18 World Cup and World Baseball Classic, then took a break in 2022.

He returned to the ABL in 2023-24 and made a name for himself as one of the league’s most formidable arms, before signing with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2024 where he reached Triple-A during the MLB season.

Wells is expected to rejoin the Adelaide Giants around Christmas and will report to the Twins for spring training once the ABL season concludes.

Baseball NSW wishes Lachlan all the best in this next step of his decorated baseball journey!
