Baseball NSW are excited to join its fellow states in the third edition of the Barclay Cup, a pinnacle event in the Junior female calendar.
This year, Baseball NSW are proud to announce that the event will be held in Penrith, Sydney, from the 29th of September to the 5th of October. Thank you to Mackillop Baseball Club who will be the hosts, with the event being run out of their new facilities, Chapman Gardens Baseball Oval in Kingswood.
The tournament is named to honour Jacinda Barclay, who had a major contribution to Women’s Baseball and overall Women’s sport in Australia. Jacinda was an Australian representative Baseball player, playing professionally in three different sports over her career.
Barclay was also a pioneer for equal rights in women’s sports and hosting an event in her name for junior female athletes highlights the impact she had on many during her life. The event is an invitational tournament which encourages participation by welcoming each of the states to compete. This event strives to have teams representing Victoria, Western Australia, Queensland, South Australia, and New South Wales. The tournament is open to female players between the ages of 13 and 16.
The Barclay Cup event has been hugely successful in the past, with the inaugural tournament held in the Gold Coast and last year’s in Perth.
Baseball NSW CEO Mark Marino has said that “We are very excited to host this year’s Barclay Cup. As the third edition of the event, it is a great opportunity to honour Jacinda on NSW turf and continue her legacy.”
MacKillop Baseball Club President Josh Gately, has said they are “excited to host the event and appreciate the opportunity to showcase women’s baseball in the Greater West. The competition offers the chance to spotlight the investment into the new facilities our club offers!!”
“Our area has a proud history with women/girls in our sport and I feel the work of some people in the area is helping it grow rapidly. We have two Women’s State League Clubs, two Female Club Presidents and an ongoing year to year increase in female participation numbers”
We can’t wait to see everyone out there!
We will be utilising Stack TeamApp throughout the tournament, so be sure to download the app, set up an account and join “Barclay Cup 2024” today!
