VOLUNTEERS
Our volunteers make an extraordinary contribution to Australian society without being paid – not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless.
Volunteers are the lifeblood of our community and come from all walks of life. They are working people, students and professionals; they are young people and retirees. They come from every suburb and community and from a variety of cultural, educational and religious backgrounds.

RILEY FRANKS
JUNIOR CLUB VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR: RILEY FRANKS
Riley Franks has been an integral part of the Macarthur Baseball League this past year. Riley has been a member of Mets Baseball Club for over 5 years. Riley is not afraid of hard work and can be found regularly volunteering at both a club and an association level. Riley can be found regularly setting up the diamond, volunteering in the canteen and on the BBQ, assisting the groundskeeper with weekly preparations, volunteering at all club events including presentations, try baseball days and club promotion, umpiring at weekly club games and tournaments as well as assisting with coaching for the Junior teams. Riley is an exemplary role model for the younger players of both the club and the association. He takes his role as coach and umpire very seriously and is extremely receptive to feedback. Riley Franks has completed his BA Level 1 Coaching Accreditation this past year and is a great motivation to the other players in his team and as a coach. He is always present at training sessions and games. He has also applied to coach T Ball to the younger players as he wants to build a strong team for the future. This past year Riley Franks has won the Mets Baseball Club Junior Umpire of the Year Award and the Macarthur Baseball League Umpire of the Year Award. |
SHELBEY WILSON
SENIOR CLUB VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR: SHELBEY WILSON
Shelbey Wilson has been an irreplaceable member of The Greater Western Baseball Association. She has been a part of Plumpton Braves for over 10 years and has since played many roles. Half way through the 2016/2017 summer season, Shelbey took up the role as club secretary after an injury forced her to stop playing. Shelbey began as a player and scorer before moving into coaching and then returning to play Seniors until her injury forced her to stop. Shelbey has proven to be an integral part of the club time and time again. This year Plumpton was asked to cater for the players participating in the 2018 National Youth Championships. Without hesitation she stepped up as not only the club secretary but also with coordinating volunteers to ensure a smooth and effective running of the 2018 National Youth Championships. She did this with distinction and thankless dedication. Shelbey also ran clinics including one-on-one for scorers, coordinated presentation days and scored 2-3 games each Saturday for both the Junior and Senior competitions. Congratulations to all those nominated, but in particular our two winners Riley and Shelbey. Baseball in NSW would not be the success that it is without the many hard-working volunteers who work tirelessly to make community baseball possible. |
