Congratulations to our NSW Baseball5 World Cup Participants

In September, Baseball Australia named its eight-player team for the Baseball5 World Cup, with three NSW players and the Head Coach hailing from NSW!

The World Cup was held in Hong Kong from October 7-12th and was a great experience for these baseball players to take on this up and coming sport in a competitive environment.

Baseball5 is the five-on-five street version of Baseball. This was Australia’s first senior team, following the squad who competed in the Youth World Cup in 2023. Australia’s debutants took that Aussie “never say die “ spirit to each game but unfortunately couldn’t come away with a win against some of their experienced competitors!

Australia was in Group B with China, France, Japan, Mexico and Tunisia. You can head to the WBSC Event Hub for more tournament details.

Check out the roster notes on our NSW players from Baseball Australia here:

  • Chase Karn is the older brother of Mattea Kara, who competed in the Youth World Cup. Brothers completing the World Cup bingo card!
  • Jonah Gray is an incredibly involved member in NSW, with experience as a player, umpire & coach, helping at all levels of the game. He now forays into Baseball5.
  • Jose Rodriguez is originally from Cuba and grew up playing the original version of the sport. He is a regular Baseball5 player and travelled to Malaysia with his B5 Club.
  • Adrian Medina, also originally from Cuba, returns as the coach of the squad. He was the Youth coach in 2023.
