Today, Baseball NSW regrettably inform all those participating in the Junior League State Championships that we will now be playing at Blacktown International Sports Park. Manly Warringah Baseball Association communicated with us that the Aquatic fields will not be in fit enough conditions to play on, due to the weather circumstances that have been present.
With further rain predicted and even with the best efforts of their grounds crew, the fields have simply received too much water. We’d like to thank MWDBA for their ongoing support of the State Championships – we know how disappointing it is for the association not being able to host the event again this year. With this venue change, we are still excited to see the Junior League event go ahead at Blacktown and it will be hosted by BNSW. We’d like to thank Castle Hill and the respective RHBL Clubs that provisionally offered their grounds as alternatives, but varying circumstances made the clubs unable to host the event also. On Friday the 11th of March, Newcastle Baseball Association held their presentation night to celebrate the tremendous efforts of their 2021 season and welcome in the new 2022 season for their club.
With the 2021 season being cut short due to COVID and finishing up a week or two before the final series, NBA made the decision to award the competition leaders the Minor Premierships and announced award winners in all other categories throughout the night. Glen Hawke was the MC for the night and announced the Junior Rep teams for the upcoming State Championships as well as presenting the team awards, Club Champions, and our major awards. Baseball NSW CEO, Mark Marino, had the pleasure of participating in the night and presented one of the Major awards. Glen also interviewed our Belmont junior player, Alex Wells, who achieved great success in the MLB, playing for the Orioles in 2021. This was enjoyed by all and was very inspiring for our junior rep players present. A total of 200 members were present and the night was enjoyed by all. Congratulations to NBA for holding such a successful night to boast the efforts of their club. The club also acknowledged the loss of Ian Lewis and Piper Kelly. Congratulations the successful Women’s players who have been selected in the NSW side to represent at the Australian Championships.
The NSW Women’s Team will compete in Adelaide in April 15th-21st in West Beach. The competition will be held for the first time since 2019 due to COVID. The team will compete against rival states to take home the title for the 7th time in NSW history. This team flaunts a combination of seven players from minor premiers, the Blacktown Workers. Greenway Giants have four representatives, Ryde Hawks three, Macarthur Orioles two and Baulkham Hills Kookaburras and Wests Boomers each have one player named. We’re very excited to see the Women’s side compete at these Championships and wish them all the best in the tournament! The trials for Baseball will be held on Monday 9th May from 8.50am - 3.00pm at Hunter Sports High. Far North Coast Baseball Association has launched a GoFundMe as it sets sights on getting back on the field as soon as possible following last week’s catastrophic flooding.
DONATE TODAY: HELP FNCBA RETURN TO THE FIELD Lismore – and FNCBA’s Albert Park home of 56 years – were inundated with water as more than 700mm fell in less than 30 hours in the region’s biggest flood event since 1954. It has left roughly 34 teams – across both junior and senior levels – displaced a month out from the winter season’s planned start date and forced the Far North Coast outfits to withdraw from next month’s New South Wales State Little League titles. FNCBA commissioner Craig Scheibel said it was devastating. “We have some of the best baseball grounds in Australia, to see it now is devastating,” he said. “The FNCBA and our member clubs have lost almost all of our equipment kits, gloves, catchers gear, bats, balls, and pitching machines. The floods follow two years of COVID-19 impacting the sport. After a shortened 2021 campaign, and loss of major events including the 2020 Australian Little League Championship and last year’s much-loved Timberjacks, there was light at the end of the tunnel. That’s been replaced with uncertainty. Far North Coast Baseball Association have been working with Baseball NSW for support as well as the relevant bodies and government to attempt to rebuild and get the community back on their feet. Scheibel said the GoFundMe – and any donations to the FNBCA – would help baseball return to the field quicker. “All proceeds raised through fundraising will go to the restoration of the complex, providing gear and equipment for clubs and players, and amenities like our fabulous canteen, under the guidance of the FNCBA board of management”, Scheibel said. Baseball Australia chief executive Glenn Williams said he was working with the association to provide support and urged the baseball community to help their cause. “Albert Park Baseball Complex was a world-class facility so to see it now leaves you speechless,” he said.
